FAQs

  • Q: Would therapy work for me?

A: Yes, therapy is space for everyone, at any given moment in life, a space for finding healing and connection and for learning skills to improve your quality of life. The basics of making therapy work is first building a trusting relationship with the therapist and being both open to engage in this space. In order to work it is also important making a team with the therapist and developing goals according to your needs. We can make therapy work together, through consistently attending the therapy sessions and being open and willing through the therapy experience. As with any important journey you will notice progress with time and consistent efforts. Therefore, trusting the journey and being open to therapy is very important.

  • Q: How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?

A: As with any human relationship, the therapeutic relationship is based on trust, Therefore, as your therapist you will notice my non-judgmental and validating approach. If you are able to trust me and my approach and you feel safe within our therapy context, if you also realize I can offer the right interventions and therapy approaches to your current issues and needs and make a team to help you reach your goals, then you will know if we are the right fit and we can begin walking this journey together.

  • Q: What can I expect from therapy?

A: You can expect finding in therapy a safe space to develop better insight of your issues, better self-awareness and knowledge of yourself. You can also expect finding in therapy and the therapeutic relationship the tools and learning the skills to understand yourself better, to improve relationship with others and to navigate life challenges. Therapy can offer the safety, stability and secure connection that you need. Your expectations are also based on your current symptoms and needs and the goals you are visualizing to improve your life and relationships.

  • Q: How long will I be in therapy for?

A: Depending on your needs and presenting symptoms, therapy can be short term (3-6 months) or long term (>6 months). In our initial psychological evaluation, we will identify and conceptualize current issues and diagnosis and that will help us identify whether you will need short term or long-term therapy, we will also identify the need of longer-term therapy according to progress made throughout the sessions and this will be often reviewed and discussed with you periodically.

  • Q: What happens during the first session?

A: The first session is an opportunity for us to meet face-to-face. At this time, I will provide a comprehensive assessment, which will take into account your personal history, present-day concerns, and what you might be hoping for in the therapeutic process. If you have specific goals for therapy and/or beyond, you can talk about those, too. Together, you’ll address any concerns or questions you have regarding therapy and identify a plan to move forward with. If we both agree to continue working together, therapy will begin during the following session. If, for any reason, you and/or I don't believe that working together is the best fit for you, I’ll provide you with specific referrals based on the comprehensive assessment provided.

  • Q: How long do appointments last?

A: Therapy sessions are scheduled to last regularly 55-60 minutes.

  • Q: Do you provide in person or online therapy?

A: We are providing both in person and online therapy sessions. During initial assessment we will determine appropriateness for online therapy. Both modalities are offered to meet your needs.

  • Q: What Therapy Modalities and approaches do you provide?

A: We provide Individual and Family Therapy. Our approach is holistic and integrative, based on your treatment needs, and with this approach we focus on collaboratively building insight and learn/develop the skills to create needed life changes and improve life quality.

  • Q: How often will we meet?

A: Therapy is most powerful when it's conducted weekly or biweekly. This is verified by countless studies and my professional experience as a therapist. Without a doubt, we’ve found that patients who commit to weekly sessions for the duration of treatment make the greatest transformations. Occasionally, it may be appropriate to meet more or less often, depending on your needs.

  • Q: Do you prescribe medications?

A: As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist we don’t have the license to prescribe medications. If we identify you might need medications in addition to therapy, we will refer you to a psychiatric provider and depending on the case we might continue to work with you in collaboration with the psychiatric provider.

  • Q: Are there any issues, diagnoses or type of patients you don't work with?

A: Anyone who presents a significant risk to themselves or others including active suicidal thoughts/behaviors, a suicidal plan, risky self-harm behaviors. Also, anyone who is actively using drugs or alcohol, couples or families experiencing domestic violence whose safety is at risk. Anyone presenting active psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations &/or delusions, anyone with a developmental disorder such as autism, or presenting neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia, etc. During our initial phone consultation and initial assessment, we will determine your appropriateness for our level of treatment and will provide appropriate referrals if needed.

  • Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: If for any reason you cannot attend our scheduled therapy session, please cancel at least 24 hrs. in advance. Otherwise, you would be responsible for 60% of the rate of the session. Therapist might make exceptions in cases of emergency.
